Player families: These rules are part of best practices on the field:
a. dispose of garbage before you leave the field
b. no dogs allowed on the field
c. strollers and bikes should be left against the fence right inside the field gate
d. spectators are NOT allowed to watch the game from the goal line
Everything you need to know about the 2008 Intramural Season!
Opening Weekend: Saturday, September 6th and Sunday, September 7th
◄ Registration is open until August 29. Players who register after August 4th will be assigned teams after Labor Day. Click on the registration link for more information on registration.
◄Coach, Safe Haven and Ref courses are available. Click onto the What’s New link.
◄Teams have been drafted in the following divisions: U10 Coed, U12 Coed, U12 Girls, U14 Coed and U14 Girls. Coaches have been assigned teams and they are in the process of calling families to introduce themselves and take next steps with their players.
Teams will be posted on the Manhattan Kicker website (click onto the Teams link) the week of August 25th.
U 8 teams will be drafted the week of August 25th.
U19 players will receive more information the week of August 25th.
◄Teams are selected through an AYSO computer draft program. Player evaluations from the previous year are used to select players for each team. The goal of the draft is to create balance – with players of all different abilities on each team. After teams are drafted, coaches review team rosters and teams are finalized. Requests to play with friends are only acknowledged in the U8 Division. The Manhattan Kickers promotes the sport of soccer and making new friends is part of the experience.
◄Schedules for the entire season with the exception of the U19 Division are currently posted on the Schedules link.
◄U5, U6 and U8 Divisions play at Murphy’s Brother’s Park located at 17th Street and Avenue C.
◄U5 and U6 Divisions play on Sunday. The U8 Division plays on Saturday.
◄U10 and above divisions play at the Consolidated Edison Fields located mid-block at 16th Street, just off Avenue C.
◄Uniforms will be distributed before the first game unless your coach has made other arrangements. All players will receive a team jersey, shorts, and socks.
◄Shin guards are required for every player on the field. You may not play soccer without them. Manhattan Kickers has a large supply of shin guards in 4 different sizes.
They will be available at the cost of $10 a pair on the field during opening weekend (Saturday and Sunday).
◄Cleats are required for all players in divisions U8 and above. In wet weather (yes, soccer is played in the rain), cleats are critical for traction on the field and prevent players from falling as a result of slippery field conditions. The Kickers will accept all used cleats that have been outgrown by players and offer them for reuse to others during opening weekend. Used cleats are only available if they are donated, but you may want to take a look before you purchase a pair.
◄Portable toilets will be available only at the Consolidated Edison Fields.
◄Wet weather is always a concern during playing season. The protocol for the cancellation of games due to wet weather is as follow: Commissioners call coaches in their divisions only if games are cancelled. Coaches then call their players to confirm that the game has been called off. If you do not hear from a coach, the game is ON! All families should know the name and telephone number of their child’s coach in order to ensure a seamless flow of communication. Every effort is made to post game cancellations or not on the website: www.manhattankickers.com
◄Wait List: Please email Karen Feuer at kffnyc@aol.com
Every effort will be made to assign players on the wait list. Schedules change at the last minute, so take a chance and sign up even if it’s late!
